| BAMBOO
We were very excited to introduce a complete line of bamboo massage tables in 2007. When we first considered bamboo as a material option , it was hard for us to imagine how those hollow, bright green sticks you see in pictures could stand up to the rigors of massage. What we found out pleasantly surprised us and we think will surprise you, too. Bamboo is much stronger than you might think! Along with the strength question, there are a handful of other questions about bamboo that we are asked every day. Keep on reading to find out what they are. How strong is bamboo? Bamboo has been used in earthquake architecture, buildings and bridges for centuries. It has a tensile strength of 28,000 per square inch. That's stronger than steel at "only" 23,000 per square inch. Is bamboo wood? No. It's actually a woody grass. Why is it considered more environmentally friendly than other materials? Bamboo grows 1/3 faster than the fastest growing tree, making it the fastest growing plant on earth! How fast is that? Up to 1 meter a day. Because of the speed at which it grows, it can be harvested in as little as 4-6 years. Once harvested, it does not need to be replanted. It will grow back quickly and hardily. It also creates a fast greening upper canvas for birds and wildlife. How do you turn bamboo into a massage table? The stalk is flattened into strips which are dried, treated and glued together. This can be made into either very strong bamboo “boards" or “plywood" that can be used for woodworking. Why does it cost more than traditional wood tables and take longer to make? The requirements for making a massage table are very specific and unique. We special order our select bamboo in the shapes, sizes and thickness that we need to build strong massage tables. Because the sizes are not commonly found and the process is still new, it takes a little longer and costs a little more. Bamboo Tables start at just $999 or a low monthly payment on approved credit. |
