* Laser Therapy Usage for Massage Therapists *

After our last webinar, Using Medical Massage with Laser to Improve Athletic Performance, we had many questions regarding the use of laser therapy for massage therapists.

If a massage therapist works in a chiropractic, physical therapy, or athletic training office – and that office purchases the laser equipment, the massage therapist is authorized to use the laser equipment under the supervision of the chiropractor, physical therapist, or athletic trainer.

If a massage therapist is the sole proprietor of a practice, they are NOT allowed to purchase a laser unit, UNLESS they can provide documentation from their state’s licensing board that outlines that LLLT (Low Level Laser Therapy) is part of the approved scope of practice for a licensed massage therapist. This varies from state to state. For any further questions regarding the use of laser therapy, please contact your state licensing board.
